ANN HAYNES

Self Portrait

Ann Haynes was born in England and currently lives in southern California.

“I have painted all my life, starting as a child just old enough to hold a paintbrush. I come from a long line of artists and poets – my mother, grandmother, great grandmother and grandfather all painted and wrote stories and poetry. Our house was always full of paintings and scribblings. My grandmother told us children wonderful stories she’d written and illustrated and my grandfather spent hours out in the countryside ‘trying to capture the the delicacy of English landscapes’ on canvas.

I lived in France in the 50’s and I couldn’t believe the light and beauty of the landscapes compared to the dull skies and muted colours of England. We lived just a few miles from where the famous impressionist artists captured the same beauty. In the 1970’s - now with a husband and young family - we travelled from Kenya to Nigeria and finally settled in South Africa where we stayed for the next 20 years. Living and painting in Africa was life changing. The skies are huge, the vistas go on forever and the light is beautiful.

We left South Africa to finally settle in southern California in the late 80’s. The beauty of California reminds me of all the wonderful places I saw in Europe and Africa – beautiful sunlight, endless blue skies and rolling, breathtaking landscapes.”

Ann has studied and displayed her art all over the world. Most notably in Europe, Africa and America. She continues to produce several new paintings every month.
